Season’s Greetings!  The 200+ Men membership meeting will be held on Saturday, December 14th, at 9:30 a.m., at the Hampton History Museum, 120 Old Hampton Lane, in Downtown Hampton.

As we continue our quest to ensure that minority and women-owned businesses get a fair share of local government procurement dollars, this meeting will provide an opportunity for 200+ members to learn more about disparity studies and other initiatives designed to provide equal access to local government contracts.

Hampton City Attorney Cynthia Hudson will provide a legal perspective on local purchasing and procurement laws and Portsmouth Purchasing Director Michael Ammons will share a unique perspective on the impact of disparity study recommendations on the municipal procurement process.

Fellowship and light refreshments will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Free parking is available in the Settlers Landing Road parking garage, directly across from the Hampton History Museum.

Lastly, the Hampton History Museum has created an original exhibition telling the powerful story of the first Contraband in America. “Toward Freedom: Hampton and the Contraband,” tells the story of the men, women, and children who escaped slavery to seek the possibility of freedom at Fort Monroe as “Contraband of War.”  The exhibit uses artifacts, documents, photos, recreated settings, and audio-visual presentations, to explore critical questions surrounding slavery and the individuals who changed the world by their actions just one month into the American Civil War. We encourage you to take a few minutes to view this exhibit at the conclusion of our meeting.
